2021 is here (and yes it has been here for a month). At the beginning of every year comes the multitudes of resolutions. I want to get in shape. I want to run a 5k. I want to lose 50lbs. I want to walk 10,000 steps a day. I want to start Whole 30…and the list goes on. While those are all well and good I am not falling into line. I am getting a bit more specific with my goals.
2021 will be the year that I run 2,000 miles. Yes, that’s right, 2000 miles! I’m pretty sure I’ve never reached 1,000 miles in a year. Last year I only ran 400. I know that I worked out mostly, but that will have to take a back seat.
Is there a plan? Did I find something on the internet to help aid my goals? No, to both. I am going to wing it for the most part. My main goals are to get my weekly and monthly miles in. I’m not much of a daily goals person. I feel like that puts too much pressure on my days when I have enough of that already. I feel that weeks and months help to paint a broader more attainable picture. That way if I miss any days I can make them up or I can get my miles out of the way early making room for more activities.
There will be actions that I will put into place so I lessen the chance of injury because keeping my body healthy is important. I will slowly ramp up my weekly miles. If I were to run the same miles every week of the year I would be running 38.5 miles. Which doesn’t seem like too many, but I’m thinking that some weeks will be easier than others. For example, when I get close to my period it’s hard for me to do much of anything. That doesn’t mean I get a free pass to not move, but it does mean that some weeks will be heavier in miles than others.
Mainly, I’m writing this to put it out there. That way I hold myself accountable. One year is a long time, but it also isn’t. If I let time go by, the year will be over and I will not have accomplished my goals. So 2021 will be the year I grab “time” by the horns and get my miles done while wearing a smile.
So here is to 2021 and 2000 miles!
